The Best Method for Potty
Training Boys: 4 Stages for Success
Every parent lives for the
day when their child will successfully potty
trained or toilet trained. This is a very
important milestone for every child and parent.
A potty trained child will have a much easier
time joining pre-school, not to mention the
savings the parents make, with the rising prices
of diapers.
For you to succeed in potty
training your child, whether a boy or a girl,
you need to understand the 4 stages that each
child must go through in their potty training
journey. You will experience different
challenges when potty training your toddler and
you need to know what each stage entails and
what you can do in order to succeed in the
shortest time possible.
There are four important
stages that each child will experience as they
potty train.
The First Stage of Potty
Training
The first stage involves
introducing your child to potty training. This
stage is much easier if your child is able to
communicate and take simple instructions from
you. In this stage, you are training your child
to respond to the call of nature by using the
potty or the toilet instead of using a diaper.
The child will get used to this concept with
time and consistency. Remember to select a potty
or toilet seat that is designed for boys.
The Second Stage of Potty
Training
During the second stage of
potty training, your child may experience
frustration. He now has a basic understanding of
what a potty is and what is expected of him but
lacks the skill to do it. At this point, he is
still not in touch with the urge to use the
bathroom. Frustration may also arise from
watching other children and older people use the
bathroom property while he struggles. It is
important to keep potty training consistent and
deal with your child lovingly even when he
messes up. Encourage and praise him every time
he uses the potty correctly. Remember to remind
him to use the bathroom often.
The Third Stage of Potty
Training
At this stage, success is
almost there. Your son will get more and more
comfortable to the using the bathroom. He will
continue to experience accidents at this stage.
Distractions will easily make him forget to use
the bathroom or delay his response to the call
of nature. It is best to keep distractions at a
minimum at this stage and keep home routines
predictable and normal. Your son will not be
able to take himself to the bathroom with
assistance from you. Remember to teach your
child basic hygiene by reminding them to wipe
and wash their hands after using the bathroom.
Success is very close now. Keep your focus and
encourage your child with special treats on a
job well done.
The Fourth Stage of Potty
Training
This is the last and final
stage of potty training. This is the stage that
takes the longest, as your child finally masters
the art of using the bathroom. The goal here is
to have your son use the bathroom with little or
no assistance from you. Your child will now not
need to be reminded to use the bathroom.
Continue to teach him the need for hygiene and
to encourage him at this stage.
With this easily to follow
steps, you can successfully potty train your boy
and enjoy a diaper free life. The need to carry
a baby bag can now become a thing of the past.
Your child will feel much more independent and
enjoy pre-school with his new found skills.
