Bonus Lesson
Today's lesson is a bonus. The course is supposed to be 5 lessons, but I wanted to give you something extra.
In this lesson, I am going to discuss listening to the wrong people.
Oh yes, we all do it. Even I am guilty of it. I think it's human nature to listen to people who really are not experts in a field. The funny thing is, I think it is in all of our natures to want to give people advice on how to do things. I'm guilty of that, too.
The problem, however, is that we do ourselves a huge disservice by listening to these people and then acting on what they say.
I'll give you an example:
A few weeks back I closed a car door on my hand. Rather than call a doctor, I called my husband, who was on a business trip at the time. I don't know why I did that--he works on computers and knows nothing about medicine.
He told me to take a painkiller and put ice on it, so that's what I did. Luckily, my injuries weren't more serious. I am sure he meant well, but he wasn't the person I should have be listening to, or asking what to do in that case.
When you brought your baby home, I am sure you noticed everyone coming out of the woodwork telling you what to do. Hold her this way, feed him that way, clothe her this way, burp them that way. If they all know so much, why aren't they pediatricians?
They mean well, but you have to take their advice with a grain of salt.
Even the psychologists who are educated in the field are not terribly experienced. Can you imagine a psychologist who makes $300/hour changing 30 diapers a day? I didn't think so.
So, why should you listen to me?
Because, as I've said before, I've been there and done that. I've been in the daycare field for over a decade. I've potty trained over 317 children, including three of my own.
Let me put it to you another way. In the 10 years I've been working in the daycare industry, I have changed over 56,160 diapers. Do you think I might know a little something about potty training?
I know how proud you are of your bundle of joy and how much you want to do all you can to help them succeed at potty training. I know because I have three lovely boys of my own. For that reason alone, I have poured out my heart into this book and the mini-course you have received over the last few days.
